Aftercare - After treatment
Have you recently been treated at Mildred Clinics for an unwanted pregnancy? This may trigger physical or emotional feelings. Listen to your own body and do what you feel comfortable with. That is always our advice after a treatment.

Expectations after treatment
After the abortion pill, suction treatment or instrumental treatment, you may lose blood for some time. Sometimes this blood loss lasts for a few days, or it may be until your next period. This is often after 4 to 6 weeks.
You may lose some clots on the first day. This is very normal and is different for everyone. Make sure you have enough pads in the house. Working out or lifting heavy things can cause more blood loss and abdominal cramps in the first week. Do you get a fever or lots of abdominal pain? If so, call our clinic or your doctor.
When you terminate your pregnancy, you may experience different feelings. Sadness, relief, fear, regret or something else. Anything you feel is allowed to be there. Would you like to talk to someone about this? Contact us and we will guide you in finding the right support. You can also contact Fiom directly.
At Mildred Clinics, we have your full attention.
What is and isn't allowed?
Do not use a tampon, do not have vaginal sex, and do not swim or bathe in the first week after treatment. Do you still have heavy and clear blood loss after this week? Then follow our advice for an additional week. This will ensure that you don’t get an infection. You may shower.
Pregnancy test
Often after 1 week your pregnancy symptoms are almost over. Do you still feel pregnant after 2 weeks? Then contact us. As a check-up, take a pregnancy test 4 weeks after your treatment. Do not do the test before then, because the result may still be positive. We will give you the test. Do you still have a positive test? Then call our clinic.
After an abortion, you are immediately fertile again. You can contact us for contraception advice.
All information about your treatment and aftercare can also be found in the client portal.
Frequently Asked Questions
An abortion has no effect on later pregnancies. You are fertile again immediately after an abortion.
Our most important advice: listen to your own body and above all do what feels good for you. Some people experience more discomfort after an abortion treatment than others. If you feel well enough, you can simply go back to work. If you feel that you need to take it a bit easier, listen carefully to your feelings.
Usually your period returns on its own 4 to 6 weeks after an abortion.
Are you using the contraceptive pill? Then we advise you to start it immediately after the treatment. The first bleeding then often comes during the first stop week.
After the abortion pill, suction treatment or instrumental treatment you may lose blood for some time. Sometimes this blood loss lasts a few days, but it can also last until your next period. Sometimes you also pass some clots, small or large. That is completely normal and is different for everyone.
Are you losing a lot of blood, feeling unwell, developing a fever or severe abdominal pain? Then call our clinic. Do you need urgent help? Then contact your general practitioner if necessary, or the out-of-hours GP service at the weekend.

At our clinic you can usually have an IUD placed after an abortion treatment. This is possible after a suction or instrumental treatment, often immediately after the treatment. After an abortion pill treatment we can do this at the follow-up check.
